“Quasi-Religious and Esoteric Inspirations in the Culture of Polish Romanticism and Modernism”
In the writings of Adam Mickiewicz one can find the influence of the thought of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin, who was an 18th-century esotericist. The lectures on Slavic literature contain references to the concept of the concordance of religious traditions and the concept of literary inspiration proclaimed by the theosopher.
Juliusz Słowacki in his writings included the concept of the preexistence of ghosts and an esoteric interpretation of the evolution of species.
The modernist and neoromantic writer Tadeusz Miciński preached the ideas of Luciferism inspired by ancient Gnosticism, Boehme’s theosophy and the works of Juliusz Słowacki.
“Forefathers Eve” (“Dziady”) of Adam Mickiewicz
Adam Mickiewicz’s drama “Forefathers’ Eve” (“Dziady”) is an example of a romantic drama. The lecture will discuss the structure of the drama, the problems of inspiration with folk culture and elements of the romantic worldview.
